Dear Trudy.. (hehe)
You've gotta copy the link cause I'm using MAC, and i've got no idea how to do the linking thing that u want me to do.
Anyways..
- http://www.gigawiz.com/viewer.html
can go check them out, and generate ideas for FAMILY.
oh! We gotta think of a name of whatever display we want to make.
I vote for All Combined, but i think we have to concentrate on just expanding family first. Health would target the parents, and Assignments, the teenagers. Both the biggest age grp that are likely to be out of the house. So I thought it'll be cool to do both.
luv ya trudy!
To: Van
so thats what you were trying to tell me...
bah... i went to research on the clock...
Adapted from en.Wikipedia.org
The Weasley family has a special clock in their home, the Burrow, with nine hands, one for every member of the family. Instead of telling the time, the clock reveals the location or status of each family member. The known locations are:
- Home
- School
- Work
- Traveling
- Lost
- Hospital
- Prison
- Mortal Peril
Only the location of "mortal peril" is known (it is situated where the numeral 12 would normally be). Throughout the first five books, the hands changed to reflect the varying statuses of the family members, but by Book Six, all nine hands had taken to pointing to "mortal peril" at all times, except when someone was traveling. Mrs Weasley took this to mean that, with Lord Voldemort having returned, everyone was always in mortal peril, but she could not verify this, because she did not know anyone else who has a clock like hers.
The Weasleys are the only family mentioned to own such a clock.
this can be part of our main navigation...
INTERESTING!
p.s/ still thinking of the toothbrush and ranking...

Data Visualization
Okay, after looking at examples of the various data visualization, i feel STRESSED!
But anyway, data visualization for family could be like a calendar, without numbers. Consisting of things that they can do with their family during their free time. The idea is taken from the Harry Potter Movie, from the scene of the weasley's clock.
to be continued...

*the family fun link maight be having problems
these 3 link are mainly to give family ideas on how to get/ plan activities.
esp the family planner.
so that if they are out of ideas for family outing, that wouldnt be a problem.
the family planner interface and content can be something made as a referance.
telegraph talks abt their family lives and advices on it.

Vanessa's thoughts on topic, FAMILY
- http://www.family.samhsa.gov/get/mealtime.aspx

I did a mind map on family, but i shall transfer it to this blog in point form instead.
- FAMILY
Importance
- source of encouragement
- belonging
- emotional suport & comfort
- warmth, nuturing, protection, security
- self-expression
Family = kinship
Things families do together
1) Meals
- share what's happening in their lives
- parents to monitor kid's activities
2) Outings
Values = Morals
- Mutal respect
- Love, Care, Concern
- Communication
- Filial Responsibility
- Commitment
Traditions
- Usual places for dinner
- Usual practices the families do
Why there is lesser time spent together
1) In need of financial support
- Both parents work
2) Changing status of Women
- no more women full-time domesic workers (housewives)
3) The need to meet the demands of the society
4) Rather go out with friends
5) No one cooks
Which brings us to the people who will need to spend more time with their families =
1) Majority of the Men
2) Working Mums
3) Teenagers
Rough ideas for DATA VISUALISATION:
1) Do a survey on target users to find out what they would normally use to represent their family members
2) Why this topic for DATA VISUALISATION / objectives / goals
- In the future (assuming) and taking into consideration, the aging population, we (future workforce) would be so caught up with working life that we subtract time off from family time
- This could help people plan their time and juggle between family and work. (eg. by looking at the data of what they have done together as a family so far, then working towards taking more time off)
3) Generate more ways for family members to keep in contact...
VAN
Topic: Family
with our 3 ideas that we felt that each have their own potential
for starters,
the idea on Assignments is would be a really good digital PA to help us organize our work and there would not only have students interested in it, but also their kiasu parents.
the next idea on Health was really good because of a current aging population and the fact that Singaporeans are getting more health conscious.
However, we liked the topic on Family because it had a personal touch.
After discussing it further, we realized that we could incooperate both the topics: Assignments anf Health into it as its part and parcel of our daily lives.
our mindmap, research would be posted very very soon.
Cheers,
